THE STORY BEHIND THIS DESIGN SOLUTION.
Our client's brief was to create a striking, cutting edge contemporary home that simultaneously captures ocean views to the south east and provide a private entertainers paradise to the north. The design shall be light filled, spacious and connect with feature external vistas.
A large double lot site which graded from west to east, situated 100m from the tranquil white sands of the beach. A unique ‘restraint’ also existed where one of the lots had a single storey covenant.
Utilising the sloping site and complying with the covenant, a stunning contemporary split level home has successfully taken advantage of the views featuring an open and airy design incorporating both formal and informal entertaining. An architectural yin and yen has been achieved by combining modern and recycled materials impeccably.
Hillside residence would be a worthy award winner given the site context and response, achieving a spacious design that can open up or compartmentalise to our clients wishes. Use of contrasting materials such as recycled timber from darling harbour, Sydney and Mount Gambier dolomite stone accomplishes a warm, earthy ambience.
FURTHER INFORMATION.
Glass balustrade was adopted to surround the void area basement access to achieve a spacious and light filled alternative entry to the home. A feature light shade located in the formal lounge room has been derived by superimposing a photo of the stone wall onto it, extending the textural qualities of the stone. The inclusion of a large glazed day bed in the formal lounge room boasts extensive water views and captures the warmth of the morning winter sun. A luxuriously finished kitchen enjoys a large island bench, sheet glass picture window with power operated height adjustable range hood in front, lifting higher so as not to obstruct the external vista. Large cavity sliding doors between spaces enable our client to either open the house out or compartmentalise areas as desired. The spacious outdoor living area includes a pizza oven, tv, fridge, sink, recycled timber posts, high level glazing and direct access from the kitchen, creating the perfect outdoor entertaining area overlooking the swimming pool. Framed in Alucobond cladding, the south east facing balcony enjoys expansive ocean views, accessible from both the lounge room and main bedroom it succeeds in being a major attraction in the design.
